What it does

Search places and get directions in Google Maps or Apple Maps without leaving the keyboard. Type a route like home > work, keep saved places, and add a Places API key for autocomplete.

  • Type a place: search it, or get directions from here, from home or from work
  • Routes typed as you say them: home > work, istanbul to ankara; the way back as the second row
  • Pick driving, transit, walking or cycling (tab cycles)
  • Home, work, your commute and every saved place before you type, with Copy address and Copy link
  • Opens in Google Maps or Apple Maps, your choice; autocomplete with a Places API key
  • go: coffee or maps: home > work at the root answers inline

Optional. A Google Cloud key with Places API (New) enabled: place predictions appear under the rows as you type (autocomplete requests are billed by Google past the monthly free credit). Empty: nothing is fetched, the urls need no key.

Maps

Places and directions from the panel, opened in Google Maps or Apple Maps. No key: the rows are urls (google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=, maps/dir/?api=1&origin=&destination=&travelmode=, maps://?q= and maps://?daddr=&saddr=&dirflg=), so nothing is fetched unless a Places API key is set. An input palette.

What the query does

The travel mode is the filter (Tab cycles it): driving, transit, walking, cycling. It applies to every directions row and route.

With api_key set, the standing rows show at once and Places autocomplete rows join below them 250 ms after the last key: the prediction's main text as the name, the rest as the subtitle; Enter opens the search pinned to the place id (query_place_id), so it lands on that place and not a lookalike. The root's inline ask never waits on it.

Marked places (⌘-click, ⇧↓): Open opens each, to compare; Copy the address and Copy the link put one a line. Directions stay one place's.

What it does not do

  • Show a map or a route in the panel: the apps do that; the palette gets you there in two keystrokes.
  • Reverse geocoding or the current address: "here" is whatever the app takes as the current location.
  • Read Apple Maps' or Google's saved places: the places setting is yours to fill.
